Zinfandel flowers have formed at Talty Vineyards, April 5 - Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma.  Another HomeWork assignment, his vines are head trained, giving fruit-forward yet fuller, firmly structured wines unlike other "fruit bombs" of the region.  Almost like a cross between Dry Creek and Amador styles.

Barbera isn't generally on the tip of the tongue for most wine consumers, especially those of us living in California where the shelves are awash in wine.

So I did my HomeWork and grabbed a bottle of 2000 Clerico "Trevigne" Barbera D'Alba from the Northern Italian region of Piemonte ($20).

This Barbera is well-extracted with deep colors, blackberry and plum aromas, full, supple with a long aftertaste.  Fantastic with lamb shanks braised in a red wine sauce (shame, we used 2 Buck Chuck).  This is for the Red Wine Lover.
