Zinfandel flowers
have formed at Talty Vineyards, April 5 - Dry Creek Valley,
Sonoma. Another HomeWork assignment, his vines are head
trained, giving fruit-forward yet fuller, firmly structured
wines unlike other "fruit bombs" of the region. Almost
like a cross between Dry Creek and Amador
styles. |

Barbera
isn't generally on the tip of the tongue for most wine
consumers, especially those of us living in California where
the shelves are awash in wine.
So I did my HomeWork and grabbed
a bottle of 2000 Clerico "Trevigne" Barbera D'Alba from the
Northern Italian region of Piemonte ($20).
This Barbera is well-extracted
with deep colors, blackberry and plum aromas, full,
supple with a long aftertaste. Fantastic with lamb
shanks braised in a red wine sauce (shame, we used 2 Buck
Chuck). This is for the Red Wine
Lover.
